Please Support the DurhamCares Kairos Campaign
DurhamCares is rebuilding its foundation and launching exciting new programs and initiatives for 2017. Would you consider making a donation?
Dear colleagues, friends and family,
I deeply value the wonderful work of DurhamCares because its motto, "Love your neighbor," proclaims Jesus' words as a call to action. In a troubling time, we need acts of love, to inspire hope, in contrast to divisive words of rancor, to provoke hostility. That is why I am helping DurhamCares to raise support through its new Kairos Campaign.
What is the Kairos Campaign? Kairos means "an appointed time." It signifies a new season, a time to be awakened to what is happening and to take action.
DurhamCares is in a new season. Since 2009 we have mobilized Durham residents and institutions to love their neighbors, and we want to continue that work. But now we face a new challenge: We have been supported primarily by one source of funding which will no longer be available at the end of this year. We need to rebuild the foundation, and we are asking you to support us at this appointed time.
Would you consider donating to DurhamCares in this new season? Your donation will support our mission of partnering with Durham communities to identify their assets and meet their needs by mobilizing and connecting residents and institutions to love their neighbors. We are excited to announce four programs that we are rolling out in the spirit of our mission:
Programs and Initiatives for 2017
- Church Mapping Project - A dynamic, multi-faceted map of Durham churches that serves as a bridge to connect the churches with each other and the community.
- Durham Pilgrimage of Pain and Hope – Not a pilgrimage to some new place - rather, a way of seeing life as pilgrimage in the place we call home, Durham, NC. Through a weekend immersion and discussion groups, we will learn from people and sites in the city as we connect place with our own spiritual journey. This is a partnership with the Duke Center for Reconciliation.
- Mission and Outreach Consulting – A partnership between DurhamCares and a congregation to help the congregation develop a robust, Biblical framework for engaging more deeply with its community.
- Events and Workshops – The John M. Perkins Community Breakfast: a gathering of local practitioners who are seeking to live out the principles of Christian Community Development. Mobilization Events: Events and workshops throughout the year that focus on key issues in Durham, highlight good work that's happening, and foster best practices for community work.
